【摘要】:Thisdocumentcoversthedeterminationofanapproximatevalueoftheunconfinedcompressivestrengthforasquareorcylindricalwater-saturatedhomogeneousspecimenofundisturbedorremouldedcohesivesoilofsufficientlylowpermeabilitytokeepitselfundrainedduringthetimeittakestoperformthetestwithinthescopeofgeotechnicalinvestigationsaccordingtoprEN1997-1and-2.Theunconfinedcompressivestrengthofcohesivesoilsisameasureoftheapparentcohesion.Acohesivesoilbehavesasifitistrulycohesive,e.g.clayandclayeysoils,butmostsoilsinthisgroupbehavecohesivelyduetonegativeporepressureandfrictionandnotduetoactualcohesion.Thistestmethodisusefultoderivetheundrainedshearstrengthofsoil.Itshouldhoweverbenotedthatnoprovisionsaretakentopreventdrainage.Thederivedvalueforundrainedshearstrengthisthereforeonlyvalidforsoilsoflowpermeability,whichbehavesufficientlyundrainedduringtesting.Themethodisnotappropriateforfissuredorvarvedclaysorsiltsorpeats.
